The best-known tuning of the Braguinha/Machete, which remains to this day, is: D (4) - G (3) - B (2) - D (1); however, and very rarely used, in certain sources another one appears mentioned: D(4) - G(3) - B(2) - E(1) (just like the first four strings of the common guitar).
Traditionally, the braguinha is normally played with the fingerstyle techniques (mainly thumb) and strumming (accompanying songs with chords). Nowadays, players have evolved towards techniques closer to those used on the guitar (fingerings, arpeggios, pizzicatos, tremolo, etc.)
